Doechii Brings Back ‘Swamp Sessions’ With Self-Directed Video “BOMBS”

Doechii released “BOMBS” on October 12, reviving the Swamp Sessions format through a roughly 95-second performance video she directed herself. The Tampa rapper delivers a compressed burst of rapid-fire verses and theatrical visuals, using the short form to put her bars, styling and camera work back in the same frame.

The release returns to the format that helped establish Doechii’s early creative identity. Swamp Sessions were built around short songs and videos made with unusually tight control over the writing, performance and visual presentation. Earlier entries such as “Bullfrog,” “Catfish” and “Nissan Altima” helped define the rougher, stranger aesthetic that preceded her 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal.

“BOMBS” arrives after a period in which Doechii’s public musical profile has been shaped largely by collaborations and other appearances. Her return to a self-directed solo format makes the release more than a routine video drop: it reasserts the DIY visual language that was central to her rise, even as her audience and industry profile have expanded.

Doechii also used the release window to discuss the album she is developing, including her interest in hip-hop’s history and in placing Black womanhood more directly at the center of the project. Those comments provide context for the video, but they do not establish a formal rollout. No album title, tracklist or release date accompanied “BOMBS,” and the track has not been identified as an official album single.

That distinction is important because online reaction has quickly treated the video as a possible signal that the album is imminent. The available evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Doechii has released a new Swamp Sessions installment and is publicly discussing an unfinished debut studio album. Whether “BOMBS” remains a standalone performance or becomes part of a larger campaign is not yet confirmed.

The cleanest story is the format’s return. Doechii is again using a small, self-contained release to control the relationship between her music and her image, without attaching a date the label has not announced. That makes “BOMBS” timely while keeping the album speculation in check.
