Newpique Seals Deal for Powerful New Docu-Series “Mothers of the Movement”

Upcoming series brings together mothers behind some of America’s most consequential social justice movements, with P. Frank Williams serving as showrunner

NEW YORK — September 10, 2026 — Newpique is moving forward with its upcoming docu-series, “Mothers of the Movement,” a powerful new project centered on the women whose personal tragedies became catalysts for national conversations about justice, accountability and change.

The developing series is set to feature a number of high-profile mothers, including Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin, and Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner, along with other women whose families and advocacy have become part of the American story.

Rather than retelling these stories solely through the events that captured national headlines, “Mothers of the Movement” will focus on the women themselves — their lives, their losses, their resilience, and the work they have continued to do long after the cameras and breaking-news coverage moved on.

The project is executive produced by Tangie B. Moore, Antoine Smith and Cameron Fields, with veteran producer and filmmaker P. Frank Williams serving as showrunner. Williams brings decades of experience in documentary filmmaking and television to the project, with credits that include Hulu’s “Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told.”

At the heart of “Mothers of the Movement” is a simple but rarely explored question: What happens to a mother after the world learns her child’s name?

For Fulton, Carr and the other mothers expected to participate, their stories did not end when the headlines faded. Their experiences propelled many of them into lives of advocacy, public service and activism, while requiring them to navigate unimaginable loss in public view.

“Mothers of the Movement” aims to create space for those women to tell those stories in their own voices.

The series will examine not only the defining moments that brought each mother into the national consciousness, but also the people behind those moments — exploring family, grief, faith, purpose, activism and the personal cost of becoming a public symbol for change.

Newpique and the production team envision the project as more than a retrospective. The series will examine the continuing influence these mothers have had on American culture and the conversations surrounding justice, while introducing audiences to dimensions of their lives that have rarely been seen.

With Williams at the helm and Moore, Smith and Fields executive producing, the team is assembling a project intended to balance journalistic depth with intimate, character-driven storytelling.

Additional mothers participating in the series are expected to be revealed as production moves forward.
